MSA 160 C-BQ Battery Chain Saw with 12" Bar

The MSA 160 C-BQ is a lightweight, battery-powered chain saw that is part of our AP System.

You can rely on the MSA 160 C-BQ to produce excellent performance combined with ease of use. It is ideal for property maintenance and cutting firewood, especially in confined areas, as it is incredibly quiet and emission-free.

The 12"/30 cm guide bar can be used to saw easily through branches and small trees with a diameter up to 8"/20 cm.

It has plenty of STIHL designed features like the Quick Chain Tensioning so you can tighten the chain without tools, the Ematic™ chain lubrication system which uses up to 50% less chain oil and the Quickstop® Super chain brake. It has low-vibrations too, so it is comfortable to use.

The recommended battery is the AP 300 S, it gives you up to 62 minutes of runtime, so you'll have plenty of time to get the job done.

Quick Chain Tensioning

This chain saw features the handy Quick Chain Tensioning system, which makes it very easy to tension the chain, without the need for any tools. Simply release the sprocket cover and turn the thumb wheel to loosen or tighten the chain.

Transparent Chain Oil Tank

You can easily check the level of chain oil in your chain saw with the transparent oil tank on the side of the machine.

Quickstop® Super Chain Brake (Q)

Another great feature designed by STIHL, the additional braking system in the chain saw helps protect you - the chain stops running either when the front hand guard is switched on or when you release the rear handle.

A: The recommended AP 300 battery will last up to 50 minutes in the MSA 160, although this depends on what the tool is cutting.

Question: How long does it take to charge?

A: To fully charge the recommended AP 300 battery using the AL 300 charger takes 60 minutes, or to charge it up to 80%, it takes 45 minutes.

Question: What battery does it use?

A: The tool is powered by a 36 V lithium-ion AP battery.

Question: Are the batteries interchangeable?

A: Yes, they are interchangeable with other tools in the AP System. They are not interchangeable with the AK System tools.

Question: How long is the guide bar on the MSA 160 C-BQ?

A: The bar is 12"/30 cm long.

Question: What type of chain does the MSA 160 C-BQ use?

A: The MSA 160 C-BQ has a 1/4" PM3 saw chain, which gives a high cut quality with low-vibration.

Question: Do I need to sharpen the chain?

A: Yes, a dull chain on your chain saw can affect the performance of the machine, making it less efficient, so it's important to keep it sharp.  This can be easily done for you at your nearest STIHL Dealer, or you can do it yourself using a file and guide. 

Question: Can I purchase another chain?

A: Yes, you can - simply visit your nearest STIHL Dealer for a replacement. 

Question: What should I wear when using this chain saw?

A: We recommend that you wear chain saw safety pants or chaps, a STIHL helmet system and CSA approved safety shoes or boots, safety glasses, gloves, and remember to tie back long hair.

#1 Cleaning your MSA 160 C-BQ

When you have finished using your chain saw, remove the battery and wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth. 

#2 Looking after your battery

Don't use a damp or wet battery in your MSA 160 C-BQ and avoid using them in extreme temperatures (very hot or very cold). 

#3 Storing your MSA 160 C-BQ

Store your MSA 160 C-BQ in a clean and dry area and keep out of the reach of children at all times.
